I host and I’ve had some great times hosting things at my house. It’s something my mum did and my step-mum used to do. I’ve grown up with there always being people in our home.
On Sunday I decided to take it out of my house and host a sports day in the park. Now I’ve always hosted things because I love doing it, but this was the first time I felt really overwhelmed and walked away thinking I’m never doing this again. And yet whilst I was feeling these feelings, everyone else expressed how much fun they had and how they’re waiting for the next one. I even woke up the next day to a message from a parent who said their son ‘throughly enjoyed himself’ and congratulated me on the day. He wasn’t even there so I’m guessing his son went home and shared.
God calls us for many different things and gives us many different talents. We don’t all have the same one, and even if we do, the impact on others may still be different. I’ve leant more into singing and put most of my efforts into it I guess because I thought that was it. This is what God has given me the talents to do. Hosting has literally just been for fun, like I held a sports day because I wanted to have fun and run up and down. And yet I’ve been told by one person that I’m really good at getting people together, and told by another that people like me are needed. What if this is another talent God has given me and instead of pushing it away, I should grow in it?
I don’t know. This is lowkey a mind dump and might not even make sense. I’m currently trying to get back into writing and in doing so, I’m trying to get into the habit of writing my thoughts as they come. So I don’t really know the point of this post, but I do find it funny how I walked away from that sports day thinking I’m never doing that again, yet everyone else walked away ready for the next one.
I guess the thing to take away is that the talents or gifts God has given you may not always make sense, may be something you’re trying to push off or push away, it might even be something you haven’t looked at as one but as something you just like to do. Whatever it is, you may just be impacting others in exactly the way they need, so don’t shy away from it. Develop it and allow God to use you, or in my case, find a way to love it again.
But yeah, literally a random thought. In fact maybe that should be the title…
